Valentino and Birkenstock’s camouflage collaboration
The Roman couture house and German lifestyle label unveil an army-inspired take on the Arizona sandal, stamped with a VLTN logo

This week, the luxury second hand website The RealReal shared that the global effect of Covid-19 has seen a 194% rise in sales of loungewear. As we’ve eased into our newly laid back wardrobes, so we’ve also slipped into a range of sliders, slippers and flat sandals to suit our downtime do’s.
It’s a home run for our wardrobes then, that Birkenstock and Valentino have released the newest slip-on shoe styles in their collaboration, which first debuted on the Paris runway in 2019. The unisex sandals are a bold take on the brand’s double buckle Arizona silhouette, imagined in a range of camouflage hues, and emblazoned with the Valentino VLTN logo. They combine the glamour of the Roman couture house with the at-home ease of the German lifestyle label - two tenets we’re taking into the rest of 2020.
Birkenstock’s Valentino collaboration forms part of its 1774 category, which focuses on special projects and partnerships. Since its launch in 2019, it has unveiled collaborations with Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens and Il Pellicano hotel group. ‘Fashion isn’t our total thing but the process of the collaborations is very interesting because you get to find out why people want to talk to you. That is invaluable,’ Klaus Baumann, Birkenstock’s chief sales officer, told Wallpaper* of the coverted category earlier this year.
RELATED STORY
Should you be lucky enough to escape to the sea this summer, Valentino and Birkenstock’s latest take on the Arizona sandal will be a beachside essential. If you're more home bound, we suggest placing your Zoom camera somewhere near your feet. Your sandals will be the envy of anyone on a video call.
