Belvedere — Warsaw, Poland

Of the many manicured corners in Warsaw’s Łazienki Park – restored by local art patrons Ania and Jurek Starak – the most recently updated is The New Orangery, a 160-year old glass green house that contains Belvedere, one of the city’s top dining establishments. Originally opened over two decades ago, the restaurant’s makeover sees impressive new interiors and a refreshed menu of classic Polish dishes created by chef Adam Komar. Theatre set designer and partner in local firm WWAA Studio, Boris Kudlička has created a scene of dramatic flourishes with perforated weathered steel screens providing climbing frames for rich vegetation, cosy balconies interspersed amongst palm and orange trees and a smooth white Corian bar that stands out against the green-walled jungle. Real tree bark lines the walls of the foyer, which creates a warming effect, amplified by mirror panelling.
